Getty Villa~Greek Artifacts
I recently spent a day at the Getty Villa in Malibu. This amazing museum is a replica of a Roman villa that was buried when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD/CE. If you get a chance, go for a visit!
Things to look for:
Zeus's missing arms and nose
Aphrodite holding the golden apple that started the Trojan War
Athena's owl
The ratio of copper to tin the Romans used to make bronze
The relief of Theseus and the Amazon on the side of the throne
Marble sarcophagus showing the end of the Trojan War & Achilles dragging Hector's body in front of Troy
I included several descriptions right BEFORE their pictures so that you'll know what you're looking at.
