China Pictures -- Chongqing
Our Yangtze cruise ended in Chongqing, which is an important industrial city on the river. It is a "furnace city," which is what the Chinese call their hottest cities. Though Shanghai has the largest population at nine million people, if you include Chongqing's suburb population it has a staggering 19 million people. During World War II, China's leader, Chiang Kai-shek, chose Chongqing as his capital after the Japanese took Beijing. We visited the museum honoring the American general Joseph Stillwell who was sent to help the Chinese fight the Japanese, as well as a museum honoring the Flying Tigers who flew provisions over the Himalayas into China during the war. We also visited the Chongqing Zoo and got to see black and white pandas as well as red pandas. However, our favorite part of our Chongqing visit was getting to watch the chefs prepare our favorite meal of the trip. Yum! Back to China Websites
